Worm Loves Worm
By J. J. Austrian

I fell in love with this adorable book to teach about love.  Love between anyone.

To help your child understand feelings and how we all go through them and need understanding this book does a nice job of that. It gives different times of how we may feel and what we can do to be there for the other. It provides questions in the book while reading and more to think about as a parent, educator, or teacher in the back.  There's also actions steps.

This book is cute where is shows siblings, a boy and girl, who talk about liking similar activities but also enjoying other activities a part from the other.  The activities they enjoy doing are illustrating that any sex or gender identity can enjoy doing them.  They are human activities.  Not "typical" girl or boy.

This book does a good job of illustrating that we have a bubble around our bodies that we don't always like to be touched. She does a good job talking about how we all have these bubbles, or boundaries and we have the right to tell people when it's okay to touch us and when it is not.  I like that the author gives scenarios of real life situations for kids to learn how to respond to them.  She gives different ways of how to respond to people and reassures the children that any response is okay. She also includes discussion points for each page. This is great to read to your kids.

It's Perfectly Normal is a great book to have on hand for your children.  It has a wealth of information that is extremely informative and easy to understand.  The book covers topics such as the adventures of puberty, reproduction, masturbation, families, staying safe, and more.  The illustrations are all very diverse and friendly. If you put yourself into the category of feeling uncomfortable talking with your child about sex and their changing body, then this book is a great resource for you and your child.  It is very comprehensive.

Period.: A Girl's Guide
By JoAnn Loulan, Bonnie Worthen

This is a great book to give your daughters to teach them about their menstrual cycle. The book covers anatomy, the changes that happen with puberty, body image including talking about how genitals also look different for everyone, hygiene, and doctor examinations.  It's an easy read and there is a parent's guide in the back of the book.  Since it is older and there are more options for hygiene I encourage extra teaching and discussion.

There are parts of this book I like and parts I don't.  I would say you could start reading this book to your five year old.  When I hear preschooler I think 3 and 4, but I wouldn't read this book to them.  The reason being is I think some of the material is more advanced.  This could be a good resource book for when they have specific questions say around where do babies come from... you can turn to those pages to answer them.  This book is great in the sense that it promotes body positivity and normalcy.  What is great are the author's notes to parents in the back.  Read that for yourself because it is very useful.

I can not tell you how much I love this book!  This book covers the word sex, as in its many uses and what it means.  It also covers relationships, gender identity, bodies, appropriate and inappropriate touch, privacy, words we use to describe sexual feelings, words that hurt or that are helpful, and more.  I love this book because it puts complex issues into simple language and that make them approachable. This is a perfect book to read alongside of your kid.  I would start this book with 8 year old's and up.  For older children they could read this on their own.  I also love this book for its playful illustrations and diversity.  It is really great.  There are also suggested questions throughout the book and activities for your children to think about or do. At the back of the book is a glossary.  Really this is a must buy.
