If you have daughters you have to buy this book. If you have sons, you need to buy this book. This book is excellent and really made me so mad as I read it. There is so much depth and insight and really a true indication that we need to do better. This is a must read.
So usually I like to read things in their entirety before I recommend them as a resource and I know that may seem silly to some. I have read 12 pages of this book and I am in love. This is a book to get already just based on those first few pages. The author makes it clear in the introduction and the first chapter of the importance of talking with our youth about sex and why as adults we are afraid of doing so. His words are easy, helpful, informative, and calming. This book encourages creating a philosophy around sex for parents and families and what to teach, something I teach in my workshops. It also reframes sexuality for youth to not simply think of it as sex, but as being a whole person and how we live our lives together. This book is a must.
Okay, this book doesn't have much to do with sex, but it has everything to do with relating. I am all about books that normalize our emotions, life happenings, and relationships. This book does that with Glennon talking so openly about her life. I think many will find it relate-able and inspiring.
This book helps explain a great personality test called the Enneagram. The enneagram is one of the best personality tests that I have come across. I believe it is worth while for everyone to read about the enneagram to help them learn about how they relate to others and what their major driving force is in their personality. The enneagram is based off of 9 numbers and the number that makes you feel the most uneasy is usually your number. I found this book to be so helpful to help me understand how I react in relationships. It's also good to figure out your partner's number so you can better understand where the other person is coming from.
Again, why is this book on here? It talks about food and money. Well, a lot of us operate in this world in an unconscious matter. When we hurt we look to fill a void. For some of us we fill that void with food and for others through buying things. When it comes to numbing our feelings it also tends to hurt our relationships. When we are aware of the pain we are trying to avoid and the unhealthy ways we tend to deal with those pains, then we are able to consciously work on them and our relationships. If you struggle in those areas, this is a great book!
